Meet the Smiths
Kansas natives turned proud Coloradans, and the family behind The Patch.

The kind of farm days we grew up with
Kansas natives turned proud Coloradans, the Smith family created The Patch from a love of farm life, family, and making memories together. Inspired by childhood days spent on their grandparents’ farms, Dusty and Kathy dreamed of creating a place where families could slow down, reconnect, and start traditions of their own.
So we bought a piece of Colorado prairie in Kiowa, built an arch over the driveway, and invited everybody out. Today, The Patch is a place for families to slow down, reconnect, and make traditions of their own.
“We both grew up in the suburbs but spent lots of time at our grandparents’ farms. They let us have all the fun without having to do all the work. We want to give other families the same opportunity.”
“We value time with our kids and family; it goes by so quickly. Creating a place where we can invite families to escape their everyday lives, reconnect and enjoy one another is a dream come true.”
Our mission
A place to slow down, reconnect, and make memories together
We create experiences for all generations to enjoy together, giving families a place to play, reconnect, and make memories that outlast the drive home.
Integrity
We do what we said we would do, even when it costs us.
Warmth
You should feel welcome in the parking lot, not just at the gate.
Togetherness
Things you do together beat things you watch.
Education
A family farm teaches without trying to.
Excellence
The little things matter, from clean restrooms to hot donuts.
Creativity
Every season should surprise you a little.

Where it started
A place to put the everyday down for a day
We wanted somewhere families could set their routines aside and spend a day playing, laughing and connecting — multiple generations, all on the same patch of dirt. That is the whole plan. It has not changed.
